Anonymous from Las Vegas – Clear WiMax and Clearwire Internet Review
I am located in Las Vegas, Nevada
When I first signed up for Clear WiMAX, my downloads were pretty fast (approx. 5 Mb/s down). However, Clear added so many customers in my area, my speeds (upload and download) went down the drain (well less than one Mb/s down) after only a few weeks.
I have complained endlessly and Clear does not dispute my claims. Clear admits that capacity must be multiplied in my neighborhood, but (after several months) Clear never seems to get around to doing anything about that. Service was fine when the tower and network capacity were matched to the number of customers.
But service is now terrible when the same capacity services ten times as many customers. Anyway, just a helpful hint:
When you first sign up, go immediately to http://www.pingtest.net — and perform several PING tests. Your Pingtest grade should be “B” or better. Your MOS (look at the fine print at www.pingtest.net) should be over 4. If your Clear connection does not excel in both of these categories, and you intend to use the internet for online gaming or VOIP — I suggest that you cancel your Clear service within 7 days and contact your local cable company, DSL provider, or fiber optic provider to purchase a decent connection to the internet.

I’m better off tethering my cell phone to my computer to get internet access. Just trying to download a 5MB file takes me 3 or 4 minutes. This company got my father-in-law sucked into this crappy internet service
